We tested the world’s largest lunch box: HelloFresh

According to them, the goal of HelloFresh is to make your dinner more delicious and less demanding. Their website says, “Good for you. Good for the planet. Good for the wallet,” we think that’s a good description!

It’s not without excitement that I, as a food enthusiast, go and order my first HelloFresh lunchbox. Personally, I’m someone who likes to plan, shop weekly, and hunt down recipes. This was an experience that featured all of my favorites: choose from exciting recipes, plan, and save time and money.

I go to their website and from there it’s not hard to understand how to order in HelloFresh:

Choose your lunch box: The first thing you see when you enter the site is a button with the text “See our lunch boxes”. Here you can choose the number of people and the number of servings. You can also change the menu, skip weeks, or pause your subscription if you need to.

Change recipes. You choose to use the recipe exchange option, here you can also add more recipes in a small amount.

For me and my family, I chose lemon-baked cod, creamy bacon pasta, and Asian-inspired tacos.

I also stopped in and sniffed a homemade burger with crispy French fries, breaded chicken Cajun and crispy cauliflower with garlic rice.

In our family we are two adults, a young man (17) and two children, (4) and (2). Here we have several considerations to take. How does HelloFresh work?

Dinner comes in separate bags, one for each dinner, already divided. When you then start cooking, all you have to do is find the bag with dinner and get started.

On the first day with the lunch box, we came home after a long day playing in the park with friends in Oslo. We are hungry and it is time for the children to sleep. So it fits perfectly with an easy dinner.

I find the bag with the food, choose the recipe with the same color as the bag and start preparing dinner. In just over a half hour, our Asian-inspired tacos are up and we’re ready at the table.

When the food is eaten, of which as many as two pockets have gone to the little two-year-old, the young man asks if he can bring leftovers for lunch at school tomorrow. There was still plenty of dinner, even though we were all well stocked.

There are good portions that you get in the lunch box, so keep that in mind when ordering. You may have enough delicious leftovers one day when you don’t have time to cook or maybe a good lunch for young and old the next.

How much does HelloFresh cost?

HelloFresh costs from 699, – to 1099, – depending on the number of meals and the number of people. To check the price versus the store, I put all the items in our regular food supplier. The total was a few hundred kronor more than the cost of our 3 for 4 meal at HelloFresh. Even more expensive than the price of 5 meals for 4 people.

I myself focus on healthy food and the environment and always try to eat what we buy. With a lunch box from HelloFresh, I have the opportunity to do just that, at the same time I’m giving up planning, reading and making healthy choices. HelloFresh does it for me.

When we open the lunch box, we get even more hungry. Delicious fresh ingredients and vegetables. We can sign what they themselves say about their raw materials: «Hello Fresh offers fresh and carefully selected raw materials, from suppliers you can trust. We prioritize local ingredients when selecting suppliers.”

We also really love the choice of ingredients, as for the first time we taste pak choy, oyster mushrooms, and an ingredient we rarely use: fennel.

In our family we have a little girl who does not tolerate a lot of milk, in addition to pescataria. With HelloFresh, it’s fortunately easy to avoid allergens you’re intolerant of. HelloFresh writes all of its components on the website and app. All components are also perfectly placed, so it is easy to replace, or omit some components that can cause allergic reactions.

Our experience with HelloFresh

We are very happy with our lunch box. The lunch box fulfills the expectations of a delicious, healthy and fast dinner that perfectly fits into the busy everyday life. We love the new inspiration he gave us, and how it fits into our routine, and no doubt will order again.
