The accident occurred in the fourteenth round. He battled with Frenchman Theo Borshire for ninth place when he braked too late.
This caused the Prima to slide into the wall when it could not turn. He later got out of the car safely.
– I felt the speed was just right. I lost a lot at first, but then we traveled really well on the slopes and found a good rhythm. This is my first race here, and I probably tried to push it a little more in the braking which made it open in the dirty part, Hauger told Viaplay.
Incredibly embarrassing, but we lost a lot of time at first. This is a lesson. At the end, he said, I know I have a good speed.
Pourchaire was tough on the 19-year-old on his team radio then.
– What a stupid idiot. I was very scared. I thought he would hit me, that sounded from the French ART driver.
Hauger has been unlucky several times during his short career in Formula 2. Earlier this season he had to succumb to both accidents and poor communication with the team.
Missing seats
On Friday, Hueger made a solid qualification when he finished third. Thus, he was ranked eighth in the sprint race. There he quickly lost some places, but was back in 10th place before things got worse.
Only the top eight get points in a sprint, and so Hauger had to lead some places anyway if he had a chance of getting extra points in the WC summary. He had the fastest time in the race when he had to break down.
Performance on his car got quite a bit of buzz, but that’s expected for Sunday’s main race.
There, Hauger starts from third and will fight for his first win in the main race. The Norwegian rose to the top in the sprint race in Monaco, but did not award as many points as the victory in the main race.
Denmark victory
Denmark’s Fredrik Vesti won the race and took his first Formula 2 victory with him. Like Hueger, he took the switch from Formula 3 ahead of this year’s season.
– To race. I can’t understand what you just did. He said I am very happy.
There were several crashes in the race, which resulted in it ending with double yellow flags after Callan Williams walked into a wall.
